Russia’s space agency Roscosmos says that Madrid-based Hispasat’s Amazonas-5 satellite will launch from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on September 11th, weather permitting.
The launch, as usual, will be handled by International Launch Services (ILS) using a Proton/Briz-M rocket combination. The satellite arrived at the launch site on August 10th.
The satellite has been built by Space Systems/Loral and will be located at 61 degrees West in order to serve Latin America and in particular Brazil. It will carry 24 Ku-band transponders and 35 Ka-Band spot beams, and have a design life of more than 15 years.
