There’s to be a High Court-endorsed investigation into how contracts were awarded in South Africa for the supply of subsidised set-top digital decoders for the country’s DTT broadcasting scheme.
South Africa’s Universal Services & Access Agency (USAASA) is making the application to the North Gautang High Court and the Agency is looking to see established a new – and approved – procurement process. Previous contract awards have been surrounded by allegations of bribery and corruption.
USAASA CEO Lumko Mtimde told local press that with 5 million subsidised decoders still to be supplied the complete contract process needed clarification. He said the application is in respect of the entire procurement process and the appointment of STB provider.
