Samsung to build “double width” LCD panels
April 18, 2017
By Chris Forrester
Trade mag Large Display Monitor (LDM) says that Samsung is building new double-width LCD panels which would have an aspect ratio of 32:9 and an overall resolution of 3840 x 1080.
The devices are said to be coming to market this autumn, from September 2017, and are aimed at gamers.
The ‘double width’, says LDM, “would get over the problem that with two monitors with bezels, the join is in the middle of the viewer’s eyeline. Three panels makes some sense, but two is a problem. Obviously, the curve would help Samsung to minimise the colour shift from off-axis viewing that might be obvious at this width”.
