A report from speciality satellite channel facility business Noorsat, and following on from the recent CabSat show in Dubai, says that although 80 percent of viewers in the region are already equipped to receive High-Definition TV, the region is lagging behind the rest of the world. For example, of the 1,500 channels broadcasting in the region, less than 3 percent are doing so in HD with many broadcasters deterred by the cost of investing in more capacity, says Noorsat.
Noorsat, which mainly supplies leased capacity from the Nilesat/Eutelsat joint-positions of 7/8 degrees West as well as Arabsat’s Badr fleet at 25.5 degrees East., says that it was involved in many discussions at CabSat with potential clients looking to make the switch to HD.
Based in Bahrain and Amman, Jordan, Noorsat says it is now carrying more than 350 TV and radio channels,
