March 28, 2017
Dolby Laboratories has announced that ZDF, ProSiebenSat.1 and Mediengruppe RTL will be the first terrestrial broadcasters in Germany to deliver content in Dolby Audio surround sound. Programmes will be broadcasted in Dolby Audio from March 29th on the DVB-T2 HD platform.
ZDF will broadcast live sport such as UEFA Champions League and its weekly special movie event Montagskino. Hollywood films will be shown on ProSiebenSat.1 and RTL, while US series including Criminal Minds will be broadcast on ProSiebenSat.1 and CSI: Den Tätern auf der Spur on RTL.
DVB-T2 HD, the next generation DTT standards, will enhance the consumer experience with clear, consistent, accessible, and high-quality sound. All three broadcasters are distributed by Media Broadcast’s terrestrial transmission network, ProsiebenSat.1 and RTL are available as part of the Freenet TV platform.
“Dolby Audio enables broadcasters to deliver a consistent, high-quality sound experience,” said Javier Foncillas, VP Commercial Partnerships, Europe, Dolby Laboratories. “ZDF, ProSiebenSat.1 and Mediengruppe RTL are already using Dolby Digital in their satellite broadcasts, and their decision to select Dolby Audio for terrestrial broadcasting as part of the new DTT standard is testament to the value that next generation audio technology brings to the broadcast experience.”
