NHK Enterprises (NEP) and NHK Media Technology are showcasing an 8K ride using Virtual Reality in a dedicated theatre at this week’s SXSW (South by South West) film and technology event in Austin, Texas.
The Japanese broadcasting giant has partnered with RecoChoku Labo and Wonder Vision Tecnho Labs to create the ride. Visitors get a virtual visit to Tokyo on a pair of motion-enabled seats and a giant 17 ft x 11 ft screen. VR headsets are not required. The images are created in 8K (16xtimes the resolution of HD), complete with 5.1 channel surround sound and other special effects including gusts of air to help with the overall drama.
The companies say they are showcasing the technology at SXSW and that other theme park offers will be considered on a case by case basis.
