As the hype starts to build for Game of Thrones season 7, which launches in mid-July, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have revealed that the 8th and final season of the HBO fantasy-epic will be the shortest yet.
Seasons 1 – 6 of the show consisted of 10 episodes each. Season 7 will consist of 7 episodes and Season 8 (slated for summer 2018) will have just 6 installments.
The news, revealed by Benioff and Weiss confirmed during a panel at the SXSW festival, presumably puts a lot of pressure on the show’s creative team to narrow the narrative focus down, and ultimately provide the story with a victor.
