Netflix plans to merchandise its hit shows
February 20, 2017
Netflix is seeking to hire an executive to oversee the licensing of shows for merchandise such as comics and toys – and forge partnerships with retailers – according to a job posting on the streaming giant’s website.
Netflix has also reportedly asked partners for a share of consumer products made off shows released by Netflix to generate additional revenue.
Netflix has already conducted one “test” merchandising deal with US chain Hot Topic, which sold clothing, mugs, caps and the like tied to 2016 smash hit Stranger Things.
Netflix states in the job posting: “We want licensed merchandise to help promote our titles so they become part of the zeitgeist for longer periods of time.”
