Ukraine: Cyberpolice bust pirate movie site

The Ukrainian cyberpolice have closed down one of the country’s major pirate websites, according to the National Police press service, with enforcement officers seizing the company’s servers.
Local media reports suggest the site is Fs.to, which stopped operation overnight on November 15th. The police say that the illegal site inflicted several million hryvnias in damage to copyright holders.
“The website`s audience has reached millions of users. Criminal proceedings have been launched into the fact of infringement of copyright and related rights,” said the agency.
According to reports, law enforcers have already seized equipment used for setting up the company`s technical infrastructure. Authorised searches were conducted in the offices, data centres, and places residence of defendants in criminal proceedings. Additional evidence of illegal activity of web resources has been collected.
“We have separately identified foreign (in particular, ‘offshore’) companies and several Ukrainian firms. Through their accounts, funds derived from illegal activities of the criminal group`s resources were being legalised,” said the press service.
