Mezzo FTA on Italy’s TivùSat
October 26, 2016
From Branislav Pekic in Rome
Italian free-to-air DTH platform TivùSat has added Mezzo to its channel line-up. Mezzo is broadcast in English and French and is exclusively dedicated to opera, classical music and jazz.
Although Mezzo has so far been offered as a pay-TV channel in over 55 countries, in Italy it will be a FTA channel, albeit with a catch. In order to access the new channel, owners of TivùSat digital boxes will also need a “TivùSat HD” smart-card (distinguished by its golden colour), which is different to the standard TivùSat card used by most viewers.
In practice, reception of Mezzo will be limited to those viewers who have recently purchased TivùSat HD-compatible boxes with the new smart-card bundled.
