Nepal wants own satellite

Nepal is inviting ‘expressions of interest’ from companies to build and launch a satellite. There are two potential orbital positions available to Nepal, at 50 degrees East and 123.3 degrees East already formally allocated to Nepal. Closing date for submitting ideas is November 21st.
Nepal’s telecoms authority says the main objectives of the assignment for international firms are to understand the international and domestic legal and regulatory framework (including ground segment) and associate modality in connection with the launching of satellite, launching a dedicated satellite and also for partnering with a satellite operator for usage of Nepal’s orbital rights, operation and maintenance of the satellite launched within the prescribed commercial terms and conditions.
Various options could be considered including an international satellite operator undertaking joint-venture with Nepal.
