From Branislav Pekic in Rome
Telekom Srbija is investing €150 million to transform its fixed telecommunications networks to an all-IP infrastructure.
The three-year contract signed with Chinese company Huawei will enable 80 per cent of Telekom Srbija users to get speeds of up to 50 Mbps by 2020, while half will get 100 Mbps or even faster.
Households in urban areas connected with FTTH technology will benefit from ultra-high speeds of connection, up to a maximum of 1 Gbps.
According to Telekom Srbija general director, Predrag Ćulibrk, the implementation of the project will enable the achievement of four key objectives: maintenance of leadership position, preserving the company value in the medium and longer term, reduce network management costs and provision of internet connections of up to 1 Gbps.
He added that over 1 million households and businesses in the country will benefit from the project, thanks to better fixed internet connections and the introduction of new multimedia services such as 4K video.
