Dubai-based broadcasting giant MBC is switching some of its Gulf-focussed channels from Nilesat to Arabsat. It also means that the all-important Saudi League football games, carried on MBC Pro Sport, will be available to Arabsat viewers effective on August 8th.
The August 8th game, the Saudi Super Cup, is between the Al Ahli and Al-Hilal teams which is taking place in London at the Craven Cottage ground. The London venue is part because of the extremely hot weather in Saudi Arabia, and also because many Saudis spend the summer months in cooler London.
“We are pleased with this partnership between Arabsat and MBC Group; it is proof that the media industry is progressing in the right direction,” said Khalid Balkheyour, Arabsat CEO.
“Most important is the protection of intellectual property rights in the region through our commitment to prohibiting any channel from broadcasting pirated content, and so ultimately protecting and serving the Arab viewers’ interest”.
