Jersey-based super-constellation OneWeb has hired Eric Beranger as its CEO for its new manufacturing joint-venture with Airbus Defence & Space. The joint venture has to build up to 900 OneWeb broadband satellites and the first batches need to be launched by 2017.
Beranger will head up the OneWeb Satellite joint venture. He was previously CEO at Astrium Services from 2003-2012 and then promoted to CEO of Astrium Satellites prior to its combining with Cassidian Systems and absorption into Airbus Defence where he has stayed as part of the senior management team.
At OneWeb, Beranger will be replacing Matt O’Connell who will be leaving the company. O’Connell was hired in October 2015 from imaging company GeoEye.
“Eric’s background in satellite production, telecommunications and project finance touches on three major operational focus points of OneWeb”, said Greg Wyler, Executive Chairman and Founder of OneWeb “he has been working closely with OneWeb since before the Airbus investment and we are grateful to Airbus for letting one of their senior staff make the transition.”
