Convergent offers along with the aggressive campaigns of pay-TV operators such as Movistar TV, Vodafone-ONO and Orange given a boost to the pay-TV market in Spain reaching a penetration of 26.9 per cent.
Despite this growth, 70.8 per cent of Spanish viewers claim not to be interested in paying for more TV channels, as they are happy with the FTA offer on digital terrestrial, according to a report from the CNMC. Just over 30 per cent say that the cost of subscribing is the reason behind the decision not to take premium channels.
Additionally, 34.6 per cent claim they do not watch a lot of TV, while 7.5 per cent find the offer of pay-TV not attractive enough, and 8.2 per cent say they prefer to download or watch online.
More than one in four TV homes now have a smart TV that is connected to the web.
