Spain: Mediaset, Discovery DTT joint venture?
February 15, 2016
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Mediaset Spain and US content provider Discovery Communications are reportedly negotiating to create a joint venture to jointly operate a new DTT channel.
The operation will have to face the share restrictions imposed by the Government which limit the participation of non-European companies in TV enterprises to a maximum of 25 per cent of the capital share.
Discovery aims to have a greater presence in the FTA market with a new channel and a deal with Mediaset would pave it the way for this. An agreement may be announced soon. The new channel would be launched over the next two months using the DTT licence recently granted to Mediaset which is currently operating six TV channels.
