Nigeria planning two satellites
January 4, 2016

Nigeria is contemplating buying two new satellites. The “purchase” has been firmly denied with NigComSat’s head of public affairs saying that discussions on the procurement, and launch, have yet to be concluded.
However, NigSatCom has been awarded a contract to look after and maintain in orbit a satellite for the Republic of Belarus (Belintersat-1, due for launch on a Chinese rocket on January 16th). The Belarus contract runs for 15 years.
NigSatCom already has a satellite (1R) in orbit, itself a replacement for a satellite lost in April 2008 when it failed in orbit.
