Canalsat, Disney exclusive distribution deal
December 15, 2015
From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris
Canalsat and The Walt Disney Company have concluded a new deal which will see Canalsat become the exclusive distribution platform for all Disney’s channels in France (with the exception of Disney Channel).
Effective January 1st, the agreement will mean that Disney Junior, Disney XD, Disney Cinema, their replay services as well as on-demand edutainment TV and second screen offering Disney English, will only be accessible on Canalsat. It marks the end of the co-broadcasting agreement that has existed between Canalsat and Numericable-SFR.
As the only non-exclusive channel of the Disney bouquet, Disney Channel is carried in the basic offer of all French TV operators.
Canal+ also renewed its agreement with Disney Media, which allows the group to broadcast Disney movies – which includes the Star Wars and Marvel franchises – with first exclusivity.
