Hackers selling lifetime Netflix, HBO subscriptions
December 2, 2015
Hackers are selling lifetime access to premium VoD subscriptions for as little as $0.50.
A report by McAfee Labs revealed it is possible to buy access to “many online streaming entertainment” services, like Netflix and Spotify, in ‘Dark Web’ marketplaces. These marketplaces can be accessed only by using a special internet browser called TOR that hides IP addresses.
According to McAfee Labs, stolen HBO NOW and HBO GO accounts, as well as other cable streaming services, can be bought for less than $10 whilst premium sports services cost about $15.
McAfee’s report notes. “Clearly, video streaming services are in high demand […] We also found other online accounts being sold, including lifetime subscriptions to premium pornography accounts, as well as free referral links to the dark web market Agora.”
