Spain’s OTT TotalChannel under fire
November 4, 2015
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Many consumers and their representatives have urged regulators to take action on the persistent technical problems during live transmissions of Champions League football by the OTT platform TotalChannel.
They are complaining about the Mediapro-owned OTT platform TotalChannel and have requested an immediate solution to avoid the continuous failures affecting many users. According to the Associations, the Ministry of Industry should oblige the operator to provide the right service with a “sufficient quality” as it affects the public interest.
They argue that the platform lacks of “infrastructure” and “foresight” following the fiasco in the negotiations with Telefonica (with a 55 per cent of share market) to reach an agreement to distribute beIN Sports to its subscribers.
The platform has refuted these accusations.
