Liberty’s £7m for YouTube’s Bigballs
October 12, 2015
Liberty Global and the global venture capital firm, e.ventures, have invested £7 million (€9.45m) in Bigballs Media, the digital production company and owner of football-based YouTube channel Copa90.
The deal gives Liberty a 14 per cent stake in the business and values Bigballs Media at £50 million. It also gives Liberty the option to increase its investment in the firm in March 2016.
London-based Bigballs was founded in 2006 as an early proponent of digital-first original programming. It launched Copa90 for football fandom in 2012 which now has over one million subscribers and over 109 million video views to date.
Bigballs has also ventured into TV content this year and is co-producing new Sky One comedy You, Me and the Apocalypse with Working Title films.
