French pay-TV broadcaster Canal+ has extended its programming deal with Disney Media Distribution, securing the French pay-TV and SVoD rights to numerous films and TV series, including Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
The new deal, which comes into effect in January 2016, also includes all the previous Star Wars titles and several films from Marvel Studios and Pixar.
CanalPlus’ SVoD service CanalPlay will also continue to carry the ABC Studios on Demand offering, which includes the entire box sets of shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives and Lost.
Didier Lupfer, Head of Films, Canal+ Group, commented: “We are proud to renew our agreement with Disney, both for Canal+ and CanalPlay. We will be able to offer our subscribers some of our greatest productions from the prestigious Disney studios, which also include films from Marvel Studios, Disney-Pixar and Lucasfilm, starting with the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
