August 21, 2015
The SVoD platform ShowMax from Naspers has launched with box-sets of HBO shows Game of Thrones, Entourage and The Wire. The library has more than 10,000 hours from major studios and local African content, and will be offered on smart devices with internet connections, including phones, iOS and Android tablet apps, web browsers, connected TVs and computers. Netflix is expected to launch in S. Africa later this year.
“We’re aiming to change the game. ShowMax won’t just be the best subscription video on demand service available in South Africa – we’re competing with the best in the world,” said John Kotsaftis, general manager of ShowMax South Africa.
Customers will be offered a seven-day free trial, with the monthly rate priced at R99 that allows access to five devices.
