Movistar Plus tests new audio technology
July 31, 2015
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Following the recent integration of Canal Plus into Telefonica’s Movistar Plus, it is testing new technology to improve the audio quality based on the EAC3 format.
The pay TV platform is currently broadcasting through its fibre optic network Canal Plus Estrenos HD with 4 audio tracks, two of them using MPEG2 with a 192 Kbps bandwidth and another two tracks on EAC3 or AC3 +. This latter format allows a better compression of the audio with less bandwidth but the same quality as AC3.
Currently the public broadcaster TVE is also using it for its DTT transmissions on La 1 HD, TDP HD and Radio Clasica, with content under the format 5.1 with 256Kbps.
