July 24, 2015
From Branislav Pekic in Rome
Italian football fans are set to get an Internet TV channel dedicated to the Serie A professional football league.
Serie A TV will commence broadcasting on August 22nd, with the start of the new football season in Italy, reports daily Il Fatto Quotidiano. The channel will be operated by the Lega Calcio (Football League), through TV rights broker Infront Italy.
Serie A TV will broadcast the matches of the Italian top football division on connected devices. The channel is likely to rely on content from the Internet rights package that remained unsold during the last Italian TV football rights auction (the asking price was €108 million) and including 114 matches.
Telecom Italia will handle the distribution of the channel. Sky Italia and Mediaset share pay-TV rights to air Serie A football matches.
