CNN recovers in US ratings battle

The quarterly ratings numbers for US broadcasters are out and it is clear that CNN is climbing back up the charts having improved by double digits in the key ‘News’ demographic. It has not managed to topple arch-rival Fox News which firmly holds onto the Number 1 spot, but has certainly improved at the expense of MSNBC.
The March 30th -June 28th ratings period saw strong performances for all news broadcasters given the extremely strong news agenda, not least the South Caroline church shooting and the entry into the presidential race of some key personalities.
The actual numbers show that Fox News (Adults 25-54, in primetime) rose 14 per cent to 301,000 viewers. CNN was up 25 per cent to 195,000 viewers. MSNBC fell back 18 per cent to 130,000 viewers. Taking the ‘total day’ adults 25-54 numbers and CNN was up 31 per cent.
