Eutelsat Americas is looking to double its Latino revenues over the next 3-5 years. The news emerged on the sidelines of a Brazilian media conference and is reported in Mexico’s El Economista newspaper.
The report said that Eutlesat plans to orbit three new satellites over the next few years and partly in readiness for next summer’s Rio De Janeiro Olympic Games.
First up is its Eutelsat 117 West B craft (originally known as SatMex-9) due for launch later this year , and due for launch by SpaceX and thus not affected by the delays from the recent ILS/Proton rocket failure.
Additional Latino capacity will come on stream from the launch of Eutelsat West 8 B (operating from 8 degrees West) and while this craft is mainly going to target Africa and the MENA region it will provide extra C-band coverage over Latin America.
Next year will see Eutelsat 65 West A launched and which will focus on Brazil, but again have a much wider role over the whole of Latin America.
