Cellnex claims DTT closure damages

From David Del Valle in Madrid
Spanish domestic broadcasting company, Cellnex Telecom, a subsidiary of Abertis Telecom, is claiming damages of €143 million for the closure of nine DTT channels as ruled by the Supreme Court. The company is asking the Administration for this compensation on the grounds that the closure “caused a reduction in revenues” having “a negative impact” on the company
The impact, according to the company, is around €20 million a year for the capacity of each multiplex with a 96 per cent coverage. The closure of nine DTT channels meant that 2.25 multiplexes were left without a licensee with a total impact of around €45 million a year.
As a whole, total damages amount to €143 million. The company hopes that the six new DTT channels to be awarded later on this year will contribute to mitigate the damages at a time when the company is finalising its IPO.
