Nilesat is using the upcoming CabSat satellite show in Dubai to launch its new Smart Digital Broadcasting platform, which sees improved compression and multiplexing covering 360 TV channels and 120 radio stations. The technology, supplied by Cisco, Bridge Technologies, Newtec and Meratech, has the ability to be expanded to cover 480 TV channels.
Nilesat currently transmits more than 730 TV channels and an additional 140 digital radio services, uplinked to its satellites from Cairo, Dubai, Amman, Doha, Riyadh and Beirut. Nilesat claims distribution to more than 60 million homes, and a 95 per cent audience share.
Media Era Technologies (Mera-Tech) has been appointed as the integrator and consultancy partner to assist Nilesat in building the next generation platform with all its requirements. Mera-Tech provided the services that addressed all aspects of designing the architecture, planning, and testing, deploying, and optimising the end-to-end solution. The selected vendors are all seen as the best within their fields, and that is paramount for a future-proof platform.
