Spain: Atresmedia seeks expansion in America

Atresmedia, operator of Antena 3 TV and La Sexta among other channels in Spain, is seeking to expand into Latin America and the US through the acquisition of TV channels or TV licences.
CEO Silvio Gonzalez told El Economista: “We are open to any type of investment in the Audio Visual Latin American world. We have the option of buying radio and TV stations or bidding for licences. We are interested in breaking into countries with a stable legal framework”.
Atresmedia also plans to grow in the US through pa- TV platforms targeting an Hispanic-speaking audience. Currently, the company is operating three channels -Hola TV, Antena 3 Internacional and Atres Series- with 21.5 million of subscribers, 18 million in Latin America and 3.5 million in the US.
Atresmedia is also relying on a multichannel strategy with online presence to increase its expansion and revenues. The group is now celebrating the 25th anniversary of Antena 3 TV which has multiplied its revenues by 31 from €28 million in 1990 to over €875 million in 2014. With the merger with La Sexta, Atresmedia has become a TV giant with 27.7 per cent of the audience (including all the channels) and 42 per cent of the advertising market.
