India’s largest DTH platform is to start building its own set-top boxes.
The main benefit, apart from controlling its production and supply demands, seems to be to save import duties, as well as to boost profit margins on today’s imported devices.
Jawahar Goel, MD at Dish TV, speaking at the broadcaster’s recent financial results event, said he hoped the taxation structure will be amended to benefit local production. Goel said he hoped that there would be improvements and reductions in the country’s Goods & Services Tax (TVA) to help incentivise local production.
