Orange TV on Samsung Smart TVs
October 10, 2014
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Orange TV is heating up the pay-TV competition in the market following the agreement with Samsung to make its pay-TV offer available on its Smart TV sets.
The company aims to strengthen its position in the market at a time when telco operators are relying on pay-TV services to capture more clients and are involved in a prices war.
The move comes soon after the company has made a €3.4 billion bid for Jazztel in an attempt to become the second biggest fixed-line broadband operator in the country, the third in mobile with 13.7 million mobile users (behind Vodafone with 14 million) and a tough competitor to Telefonica and Vodafone-ONO in the convergent services market.
Orange TV currently has around 91,000 pay TV subscribers.
