YouTube funding more user-producers
September 19, 2014
YouTube has started to hand out another round of funding to some of its top content creators, according to YouTube Originals head Alex Carloss.
“As any creator will tell you, making compelling new content isn’t easy, and we expect to learn a lot through this process. We’ll experiment with new formats and ideas. We’ll get our hands dirty. We’ll make some mistakes. Together, we’ll (hopefully) create some fantastic new content on YouTube,” said Carloss.
YouTube’s latest round of spending comes after the company bankrolled the production of original content with a reported $100 million three years ago. Those early funding efforts led to mixed results. YouTube is now focusing on creators who are already successful on the platform.
