Korea Telecom (KT) has integrated ultra-high-definition system-on-a-Chip (SoC) from Broadcom into KT set-top-boxes to power its 4K IPTV service, Olleh GiGA Ultra-HD. The SoC ensures 4K delivery at 60 frames per second in 10-bit colour.
“KT has planned to provide more than 500 4K programmes by the end of 2014. The telco has launched STBs in South Korea earlier this month. The BCM7252 Ultra HD SoC comes with features such as high-performance dual-core Brahma 15 10000 DMIP CPU, HEVC decode, dual HD AVC encode, integrated high-performance connectivity peripherals and high performance DDR3/DDR4 system memory interface,” says the company.
“The launch of our GiGA UHD(4K) STB and IPTV service provides consumers with an exciting new home entertainment experience while contributing to the broader proliferation of Ultra HD content production and delivery,” said B.K.Jeon, Media Business Department Vice President at Korea Telecom.
