Thailand’s communications regulator, its National Broadcasting & Telecoms Commission, says it will start issuing free digital TV vouchers from October 15. The vouchers are being issued to help fund the nation’s conversion from analogue to digital TV. The Commission says it expects to mail more than 22.9 million vouchers, which users can spend on TV convertor boxes or a discount on a new digital TVs.
The vouchers are worth some $21.50 (Thai Bhat 690). Each voucher is issued to a specific dwelling.
The project’s cost is placed at about $492 million.
A list of qualifying set-top box suppliers will be published on September 15.
