Italy to adopt HbbTV 2.0
August 5, 2014
Italy’s Confindustria Radio Televisioni has issued a statement declaring the intention of the country’s broadcasters to move from DVB-MHP to the HTML-5 based HbbTV 2.0 when the specification is released later this year.
Italy’s HD-Book 3.0 (due to be published in October) will retain MHP, but the plan is to endorse HbbTV 2.0 as the standard middleware in HD-Book 4.0. The release of this document is driven by the availability of the ‘UHD-1 Phase 2′ technical specification from DVB in order to be able to support 4K. It is not expected to be published until 2016.
