Mediapro F1 channel for Latin America
March 25, 2014
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Spanish TV production company Mediapro is launching a regional 24 hour Formula One channel after acquiring the rights for most of Central, South America and the Caribbean.
The company has acquired the FTA and pay-TV rights to F1 for the regions, excluding Brazil, from 2015 to 2019. To exploit them, Mediapro will create a regional sports pay-TV channel to compete with Fox Sports, and Walt Disney’s ESPN.
Mediapro already produces a pay-TV sports channel for Al Jazeera in the Middle East and owns the TV rights of La Liga teams Real Madrid and Barcelona.
