Internet television network Netflix has confirmed a third season of its award-winning drama series House of Cards in advance of the Season 2 premiere on February 14th.
The news represents the first renewal for the political thriller, which Netflix originally commissioned with an upfront two-season order. “Our intent is that the show keep going for sure,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos in October 2013. “It was a 26-episode commitment. It was not our intent that it just run for two seasons.”
Netflix became the first original online programming service to earn a major television award, with Robin Wright being named Best Actress in a Drama Television Series at the recent Golden Globes for her performance in House of Cards.
The programme – Netflix’s first foray into original programming – was also nominated for Best Drama Series and two other acting awards, Best Actor in a Drama Television Series for Kevin Spacey and Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Television Film for Corey Stoll.
