ZDF renews Champions League FTA deal
December 16, 2013
German public service broadcaster ZDF has renewed its deal for FTA Champions League rights for the next three-year cycle.
ZDF has broadcast Europe’s top tier club football competition since 2011, in tandem with pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland, which renewed its deal earlier in the week.
The new deal, signed between the broadcaster and Uefa’s agency Team Marketing, entitles ZDF to show 18 games per season during the 2015/16 to 2017/18 cycle.
Those games will fall on Wednesday evenings and will be exclusive on ZDF. The broadcaster also has the right to show Tuesday night games involving German teams in the knockout stages of the competition.
