French aerospace company Thales Alania has won a contract to supply a new secure communications satellite for Brazil. A joint-venture of telco Telebras and local company Embraer is placing the order, and French rocket company Arianespace will take care of the launch during the later part of 2016.
Telebras will then take care of the commercial aspects of the satellite while the military aspects will be controlled by Brazil’s Defense & Strategic Communications agency.
Confirmation of the deal is expected to be announced during an official visit to Brazil by French president Francois Hollande.
