Netflix, Disney Dutch deal
October 17, 2013
Netflix has obtained rights to additional Disney titles for its just-launched streaming service in the Netherlands, starting in 2014.
Netflix will have exclusive subscription VoD rights in the Dutch market for live-action and animated movies from Disney, including “The Avengers,” Pixar’s “Monsters University,” and “The Lone Ranger.” Deal also covers library titles including “The Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl,” “Ratatouille” and “WALL-E,” as well as TV content such as “Lost”.
Netflix last month launched service in the Netherlands, its seventh European market and 41st country launch overall. The Dutch service is €7.99 per month.
“Working with Netflix gives us the perfect opportunity to offer their members in the Netherlands a superb variety of Disney movies through a high quality and convenient viewing experience,” Catherine Powell, Disney’s senior vice president of program distribution for EMEA, said in a statement.
