TopTV becomes StarTimes TV

TopTV, the struggling South African pay-TV broadcaster, is being rebranded as Star Times TV. Star Times has been in the process of buying the TopTV assets (owned by the On Digital Media consortium) for some months. The deal is expected to formally close in November.
Local reports admit that TopTV is in a period of “transition” and that a lot of changes will be made to branding and even channel line-up.
However, TopTV/Star Times is now not the only challenger to Multichoice/DStv. A few days ago the free-to-air Freevision bouquet launched on satellite, and in the next week or so a sister company of local broadcaster E-tv is launching its OpenViewHD bouquet of channels.
