TalkTalk TV surpasses 500,000 customers
August 28, 2013
TalkTalk says that it is the UK’s fastest-growing pay-TV service, after revealing that it has signed the 500,000th customer to its YouView-powered offering. The telco launched its budget TV service less than 12 months ago.
“Reaching this milestone in less than a year is a great achievement, but it’s just the beginning,” said Dido Harding, chief executive of TalkTalk. “We remain committed to bringing affordable pay TV to more and more families across the country.”
TalkTalk launched its TV service at the end of September 2012, with customers keen to take advantage of a free YouView set-top box worth £299 being offered as an incentive to join.
TalkTalk reports that 75 per cent of its TV customers are upgrading from Freeview and Freesat, which do not have such advanced set-top boxes and are in over 10 million UK homes.
The new service allows viewers who balk at a monthly Sky pay-TV subscription to access on-demand content, including the BBC iPlayer, Facebook and Sky News.
