Madrid-based satellite operator Hispasat used its giant Amazonas 3 satellite to beam 4K Ultra-HDTV signals into Brazil.
The test signals went to – at least one – 84” LG receiver at an event in Rio to help celebrate the coming into use of the new Amazonas 3 satellite. Hispasat hasd earlier trialled 4K/Ultra HDTV at the Mobile World Congress Event in Barcelona in March.
At the Rio event, the marketing manager of LG Home Entertainment, Fernanda Summa, said that Brazilian broadcaster TV Globo is already conducting 4K tests and is in negotiations with FIFA to have some matches of the Confederations Cup captured in Ultra HD. The director of Ericsson for Latin America, Al Numez, said that cable and DTH operators could expect to start offering suitable domestic receivers compatible with 4K signals from the second half of 2014.
