India wants more TV revenue

India’s public broadcaster Doordarshan is looking to raise more cash for its TV and All India Radio transmissions. Doordarshan is mostly financed by a government grant currently worth $400 million (in 2013-14), and up 26 per cent on 2012-13.
However, that could change. Doordarshan is keen to see a BBC-style funding model, and is saying that one other option to raise more chash would be to convert some of its channels into a pay-TV model.
Prasar Bharti, which operates Doordarshan and All India Radio, says it needs another $184 million to fund its operations.
