Thailand’s latest satellite pay-TV operator, GMM-Z, will start transmissions on February 15th. The company says that it already has 1.5 million suitable set-top boxes in the market. GMM-Z says it is targeting 150,000 subscribers this year.
Twelve channels will debut on Feb 15 including Euro Sport, GMM Club, GMM Football Extra, GMM Sport One, Nick Junior, Nat Geo Adventure, Warner TV and GMM Movies. The company has planned to provide 3 monthly packages $6.73 for 4 entertainment channels, $10.09 for 4 sport channels and $13.46 for all 8 channels , while the additional 4 channels will be offered free of cost for customers buying GMM Z’s STBs.
GMM-Z is promising to launch an HDTV decoder box in February. Thailand is said to still have about 40 per cent of its population receiving channels over rooftop terrestrial antennas.
