BT sports channels secure Sky slots
November 21, 2012
BT has reserved two EPG slots on the Sky platform in preparation for the launch of its sports channels. The UK telco has secured rights to Premier League football and Premiership rugby packages, has acquired the placeholders on the pay TV platform, which it has temporarily branded as Sailing 1 and Sailing 2.
BT will rebrand and officially launch the channels next year.
BT confirmed the EPG slots had been secured ahead of the launch. “Sailing 1 and 2 are placeholders for the new BT Sport channel, which will be launching next year,” he said. “For test purposes they will be showing sailing, treasure diving and kayaking content.”
Meanwhile, BT is reportedly considering launching a third sports channel to broadcast other content including on-demand programmes and one-off pay-per-view events.
BT is expected to base its sports operations in the Olympic Park – with an announcement coming later this month.
