Dish Network unexpected quarterly loss
November 6, 2012
Dish Network, the second- largest US satellite-TV provider, has reported an unexpected Q3 loss. The net loss was $158.5 million, compared with a profit of $319.1 million a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing
Dish lost 19,000 net subscribers in the quarter. Subscriber acquisition costs jumped 15 per cent to $453 million. Sales fell 2.2 per cent to $3.52 billion.
Dish is awaiting FCC approval to use its airwaves to transmit mobile video and data. The company has said it is searching for a partner that already has a wireless network to avoid spending billions on building a new one.
