Venezuela plans new pay-TV rules

Dario Vivas, President of Venezuela’s National Assembly Popular Power & Communication Media Commission, says that the Venezuelan Government will revise its Pay-TV rules. The draft bill addresses three issues: the contract tie between the user and the company, the operator’s programming and prioritizing national broadcasters in Pay-TV services and EPGs.
Deputy Blanca Eekhour, in charge of drawing up the bill, stated that she would take into account the different claims submitted by several regional channels “that have been excluded or are charged too high fees” to get their signal transmitted. She added that she was also concerned that programming was becoming too violent.
She said that Pay-TV broadcasters must adjust its activity and programming with the purpose of “enabling a healthy and normal development of the educating process and new generation training”.
