Verizon, Redbox tee up Redbox Instant by Verizon

Following the February 2012 announcement that US telco Verizon and retail solutions specialist Coinstar had formed a joint venture in the online entertainment marketplace, further details have emerged, including product name, logo and leadership team. The operation will provide nationwide competition in the OTT and physical and digital markets for Netflix.
Redbox Instant by Verizon is slated to launch later in 2012, delivering a movie experience that taps into the simplicity, accessibility and fun consumers crave, according to the company. Redbox Instant by Verizon has implemented alpha testing to ensure the launch will offer movie lovers everywhere a unique combination of physical plus digital movies.
All consumers have immediate access to new-release DVD and Blu-ray Disc movie rentals through more than 36,800 Redbox kiosks nationwide and can instantly view popular entertainment content anywhere, anytime, using the devices they prefer with a Redbox Instant by Verizon subscription and video on-demand streaming service.
Shawn Strickland is currently the chief executive officer, overseeing the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the company and is charged with successfully positioning Redbox Instant by Verizon in the online entertainment marketplace. Prior to his current assignment, Strickland served as region president of Verizon Telecom’s New York south/east region.
As CEO, he is supported by Amy Gibby, chief marketing officer; Joe Ambeault, chief product officer; Jack Gallagher, chief technology officer; Pete Castleton, vice president business development and performance management, andTina Altmann, vice president customer operations.
